Office Romance (Russian: Служебный роман, translit. Sluzhebnyy roman) is a Soviet comedy film directed by Eldar Ryazanov. It was filmed at Mosfilm and released in 1977. The film's plot is based on the stageplay "Co-workers" (Russian: Сослуживцы, translit. Sosluzhivtsy) written by Eldar Ryazanov and Emil Braginsky, and tells the story of Ludmila Kalugina, a general manager of a statistical bureau, and her subordinate, economist Anatoly Novoseltsev, who come from mutual aversion to love.

Office Romance was the leader of Soviet film distribution in 1978 and still enjoys wide popularity in the former Soviet republics.

Both romantic drama and screwball comedy, the film is noted for its display of Moscow sceneries, and for its comical presentation of everyday life and customs of Soviet society during the Era of Stagnation.

At Home Among Srtangers... (1974) (English subtitles).

Свой Среди Чужих,Чужой Среди Своих.1974 At Home Among Srtangers... (1974) (English subtitles).

At Home Among Srtangers, a Stranger Among His Own is a 1974 film starring Anatoly Solonitsyn and directed by Nikita Mikhalkov.
The setting is post-Russian Civil War, during the reconstruction of the young Soviet republic. During the war, Shilov, Sarichev, Kungorov, Zabelin and Lipyagin had become great friends.

There are two main plots in the film, the first involving the theft of gold by outlaws just after the Russian civil war. Though the cannons are now silent, the enemy continues to harass the Soviets.
The regional committee sends a precious shipment of gold by train to Moscow, and a group of Cheka soldiers led by Shilov are entrusted with the responsibility of guarding it. The gold is needed to buy bread from overseas to feed the starving population. When the train is attacked by bandits, the guards are killed and the gold stolen. Shilov is kidnapped before the train sets off, and is dumped in the street, pumped full of drugs, after the attack. He is suspected of treason, partly because his brother was a "White", which is where the second plot comes in. Shilov must infiltrate the enemy camp to find the gold, hence the title.
The second plot involves the Shilov's desire to clear his name of murder, and he must find out who killed his friend. During his efforts, Shilov uncovers a web of deceit and treachery, which allowed the robbery to succeed. The story of a hero battling against corruption and greed echoes the cattle baron or railroad Westerns...

Torpedo bombers (1983) (English subtitles).

Torpedo bombers (1983) (English subtitles).

Torpedo bombers (1983) (English subtitles).

The film is based on short stories by Russian writer Yuri Guerman. The year of 1944. The Second World War. A marine air force regiment is stationed at a small airfield. For the pilots, this is both the front and the rear. They live here with their families, leading a seemingly normal life, giving small parties and even attending concerts of touring artistes. And yet, any operational flight may prove to be the last one in their life... The film incorporates the unique wartime documentaries, which were filmed, on the one side, by the British, and on the other side - by the German camera men. This work was done at a time when the German bombers attacked the British caravan of freight ships sailing due Murmansk under the Lend-Lease Act. On the British part, the filming was done by a camera man sailing on board of one of the attacked ships. On the German part, there was a camera operator flying with the pilot of one of the bombers...

Dedicated to the pilots of the Red Banner Northern Fleet.

My Friend Ivan Lapshin (1984) (English subtitles).

My Friend Ivan Lapshin (1984) (English subtitles).

My Friend Ivan Lapshin (1984) (English subtitles).

Alexei German's third film as director is based on stories written by his father, prominent author Yuri German. The mostly black-and-white film begins with a present-day color sequence, then reverts to monochrome and the freezing winter of 1935, when the narrator was nine years old. The boy lived in an apartment with his father and two other men, Police Chief Ivan Lapshin and his officious underling. The story focuses on Lapshin as he tracks down a gang of crooks in his provincial Russian village, helps his recently widowed friend, and enters into a tentative relationship with an actress. Capable direction by German and a talented ensemble cast make this detailed look at the pre-purge Soviet Union both entertaining and richly rewarding.

Pirates of the XXth Century (1979) (English subtitles).

The action of this adventure film follows a real-life story. A Soviet vessel was carrying a cargo of the opium for pharmacological industry. The present-day pirates, going after a rich loot, had treacherously captured the ship and its crew. Unwilling to leave any witnesses of their armed assault, the pirates tried to eliminate the whole crew. A fierce mid-ocean fight ensued between a handful of Soviet sailors and the modern-day bandits that knew no mercy. The well-known karate specialists participated in the shooting. Judging by box-office figures, at the time of its release the film had been viewed by every third moviegoer.

Taxi Blues (1990) (English subtitles).

Taxi Blues (1990) (English subtitles).

Taxi Blues is an excellent work and very well transcends the chaotic atmosphere in Russia during the late Perestroika period, and prior to the break-up of the Soviet Union itself. The relationship between two main characters represents bipolar parts of the Russian society, and shows degradation of the social fabric.
A taxi driver in Moscow named Shlykov gets stiffed of his fare by the saxophone player named Lyosha who calls himself a genius who "speaks to God". Shlykov tracks down Lyosha and takes his saxophone and that is when the plot begins...

The Flight (1970) (English subtitles). Part 2/2.

This film is based on works by the Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov. The 1920s Civil War in Russia. Routed by the Red Army, the panic-stricken White Guards were fleeing the country. Like a headlong avalanche, they carried along those who wouldn't accept the new power. Among many who fled abroad from the Crimea were Roman Khludov, head of the general staff of Wrangel's Army, a hangman and executioner; Sergei Golubkov, a university professor; Serafima Korzukhina, wife of a St. Petersburg business man who renounced her to save his own skin, and others. Their lives in a foreign land took different turns, but they were all destined to go through a bitter re-evaluation of their former ideals and personal dramas.
One of the world's best screen adaptations of M. Bulgakov's prose -- his novels "The Flight" and "White Guard" and libretto "The Black Sea" dedicated to M. Frunze. Literary consultant of the film -- the author's widow Yelena Bulgakova.
